Veneto Maintenance

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR USE OF THE TERRAZZO VENETO PAVER

It is important to realise All pavements are subject to spillages and soiling and a build-up of dirt and grime. The careless use of cement type materials during the laying of a pavement can also lead to soiling.  Frequent sweeping and washing reduces the effect of dirt and grime and maintains the attractiveness of a paving.

Pavers

Routine cleaning and maintenance of pavers is recommended. Periodic cleaning and removal of organic materials such as moss, mould & algae etc using proprietary cleaning products and physical brushing with detergent (HI-CHEM ENVIROFRESH) flushed off with water is suggested to maintain the appearance of the product.

If using pavers around pools, in barbeque areas or in areas where staining or marking is likely from tree berries or leaf tannins, you might consider sealing your paved area. Pavers need to be cleaned with a mild acid wash (Spirit of Salts), 20 parts water to 1 part acid prior to sealing. Following the acid wash, the pavers need to be completely clean and dry before applying sealer. Horizon or our agents can recommend the appropriate sealer to use. Because it is difficult to remove stains after the event, sealing should be carried out as soon as possible after installation.

Sealing of paving allows for ease of future cleaning and maintenance. Whilst no paver can be guaranteed to be 100% stain free for life, sealed Terrazzo Veneto pavers will provide a very high level of stain resistance.

The success of any sealed job is dependent on many factors e.g. (weather and temperature on the day, dryness of tiles, use of the right tools, following the supplier’s instructions for applying the sealer). We therefore recommend employing qualified and experienced applicators.

There are a number of different sealing products and suppliers in the marketplace. As the conditions present on every site are unique, Horizon International can recommend appropriate sealers that give a “wetlook” finish or a matt finish. If you require a Wetlook we recommend the Stoneage Wetlook Sealer, for a clear (Natural /Drylook ) Sealer we recommend the Stoneage Drylook Sealer . Both products have been tested extensively on the Veneto paving and provide optimum protection to staining and have a long life cycle

When sealing pavers it is important to ensure the sealer does not alter the degree of slip resistance you want for the surface finish in your particular situation.

The purpose of sealing is to enhance the colour of the tiles, protect the surface and to ease cleaning and maintenance. The tiles do require ongoing resealing. Resealing should not be required within five years from first application. How often depends on site specific conditions such as exposure to sunlight, amount of wear to the surface (e.g. foot traffic) and the quality of the sealer.

The use of acid or water blasting can alter the top surface of pavers and can change its appearance. Seek expert advice and/or carry out a small test on an inconspicuous area before undertaking cleaning or maintenance over the entire area
